Effective August 25, 2026. DiskWhisk scans and cleans files locally on your Mac. Its optional AI advisor can send a limited, structured scan summary to DeepSeek for inference.

What DiskWhisk processes

DiskWhisk reads filesystem metadata inside the scan locations you choose, including names, local paths, sizes, dates, file types, and access state. It does not read file contents for scanning or advice.

If you configure and use the optional advisor, it sends your question and an allowlisted inventory containing scanner-issued IDs, categories, sizes, dates, safety classifications, generic reasons, recovery methods, and storage domains. File names, exact paths, file contents, filesystem identities, and application identifiers are excluded.

What stays on your Mac

Scan snapshots, exclusions, “Keep this” choices, cleanup history, recovery references, Maintain Mode rules, and Storage Story checkpoints stay on your Mac. DiskWhisk has no account system, telemetry service, advertising SDK, or remote logger. Scanning, notifications, scheduling, and cleanup do not require network access.

An optional DeepSeek API key is stored in the macOS Keychain and used only to authorize advisor requests. DeepSeek handles those API requests under its own terms and privacy practices. DiskWhisk does not sell personal data.

File changes and recovery

Scanning is read-only. AI cannot invent paths, run commands, authorize automation, or start cleanup. Manual cleanup happens only after you review a fixed plan and approve it. Approved items move to the macOS Trash and remain recoverable.

Maintain Mode is off by default. Automatic cleanup requires separate authorization, advance notice, and fresh safety checks. Permanent removal is also off by default and can apply only to exact recovery items previously moved by Maintain Mode after a seven-day grace period. Unrelated or changed Trash items are never removed.

Permissions and deletion

Optional personal-folder and Trash scans may trigger macOS permission prompts. Denying access leaves other results usable. You can change permissions in System Settings and manage exclusions, history, Storage Story, Maintain Mode, and the advisor key inside DiskWhisk Settings.

Uninstalling DiskWhisk does not empty Trash. After closing the app, local app data and preferences can be removed from your Mac separately.

Changes to this notice

Any future account, analytics, additional AI provider, or broader data-sharing capability will require an updated notice and will not be enabled silently.
