Current download

Disk Whisk 0.9.5

Update checks, Help menu links, and a trial tied to the Mac.

  • Disk Whisk now checks for a newer version once a day and, when there is one, shows a small notice with Download, What's new and Skip this version. Check for Updates… in the Disk Whisk menu checks at any time. The check sends only what any web request carries (your IP address and the app version), and you can turn it off in Settings › General.
  • To update, download the new version, quit Disk Whisk, then drag the new app into Applications to replace the old one. Your settings, history and license are kept.
  • The Help menu links to support, release notes, the privacy notice, terms and the license policy, and can start an email to support.
  • Settings › General shows your version and when Disk Whisk last checked for updates.
  • A free trial is now tied to the Mac, so deleting Disk Whisk's Keychain item no longer starts a new one. Only a one-way code made from the Mac's hardware ID is sent; the ID itself never leaves the Mac.
  • Containers & VMs now says, before you review, that deleting there is permanent and skips Trash.

Disk Whisk 0.9.4

Compress, Disk Runway, a new Make Room, and a faster, more careful app.

  • Compress estimates what macOS's built-in compression would save on your apps, Homebrew, toolchains, editor extensions and the dependencies of projects you haven't touched in a month. With Pro it compresses the folders you review; Uncompress undoes it at any time, with or without Pro. Each file is checked before it replaces the original.
  • Disk Runway forecasts when each disk will drop below 20 GB free. It keeps one free-space reading per disk per day, on this Mac only.
  • Make Room asks how much space you need, shows a goal meter, and picks the fewest lasting items that reach it instead of emptying every cache.
  • A new Developer build files cleanup covers Xcode DerivedData, simulator and package-manager caches, downloaded models and build folders such as Rust targets. Recently used items stay review-first.
  • Cleanup groups start collapsed, are named by what they hold, and say when each item last changed. Personal files are never selected in bulk.
  • Containers & VMs is one list, grouped by tool.
  • The window, sidebar and cards have a frosted glass finish. Reduce Transparency keeps solid colours.
  • Faster everywhere: launch reuses a recent storage map, and a first cleanup scan takes about 24 seconds instead of 94.
  • Fixed sizes that missed a folder's files after a symbolic link, plus 120 safety, receipt and scan fixes from a full review.
  • Every Pro plan, including yearly and monthly, now covers 2 Macs.

Disk Whisk 0.9.3

A design and usability pass across every screen.

  • Every page now shares one layout, so titles, cards and action bars line up as you move around the app.
  • Explore's storage map gives each top-level folder its own colour, and the list's colour dots always match the map. Hairline slivers that looked like glitches are no longer drawn, and long folder names keep their ending visible.
  • Overview no longer shows "Zero KB" while it is still measuring, and shows a single clear mapping status.
  • Links and buttons use consistent styles; each page has one primary action.
  • Ask Disk Whisk's suggested questions are easier to read and tap.
  • Containers & VMs explains itself in fewer words.
  • Fixed a stray vertical line in the window toolbar on macOS 26.

No cleanup, safety or recovery behaviour changed.

Earlier release

Disk Whisk 0.9.2

This build moves the verified Mac download to versioned Cloudflare R2 storage with a stable website download link. There are no intended app behavior changes from 0.9.1.

Earlier release

Disk Whisk 0.9.0

Disk Whisk is a private, local-first cleanup utility for macOS 14 and later.

Highlights

  • Adds Storage Story: local capacity checkpoints, validated broad-domain change explanations, a Make Room handoff, and Reclaimable Truth receipts that keep moved-to-Trash bytes separate from observed available space.
  • Adds explicit startup-disk and local-volume selection. Removable-volume cleanup stays review-only, is bound to the selected volume identity, and uses that volume's Trash; network volumes remain outside the current scope.
  • Scans third-party caches, old logs, and known preferences, containers, and saved state from uninstalled apps.
  • Adds clear macOS purpose strings for optional Desktop, Documents, Downloads, removable-volume, other-application-data, and installed-app-bundle access.
  • Reuses recently verified metadata for faster repeat scans and invalidates cached metrics when filesystem identity or root metadata changes.
  • Explains every result with its size, evidence, safety level, impact, and recovery method.
  • Creates a fixed review plan and revalidates each approved item immediately before cleanup.
  • Supports folder, category, file-type, and application exclusions, including nested-exclusion protection.
  • Verifies filesystem identity as well as size and date, and rejects symlinked restore destinations.
  • Revalidates the recorded filesystem identity in Trash before restoring, so a replacement cannot be moved into the original location.
  • Moves approved items to the macOS Trash and records a local, restorable history.
  • Keeps remaining Trash items recoverable and retryable when a restore is paused.
  • Adds Maintain Mode with daily, weekly, or monthly checks, reminders, and separately authorized automatic cache/log cleanup after 24 hours’ notice.
  • Gives Maintain Mode its own sidebar page and menu-bar controls. Reminder-only mode can be enabled without notification permission; automatic cleanup requests permission explicitly and provides a System Settings recovery route after denial.
  • Adds a separate Make Room sidebar workflow: enter a 1–250 GB goal and apply it with an explicit Update plan action (or fine-tune it with the stepper), run a deeper read-only search when the ordinary scan falls short, review a least-disruptive Safe to remove draft, progressively add the next batch of up to ten prioritized non-personal review suggestions with each later update, adjust clearly separated alternatives, and continue through the existing confirmation and recovery flow.
  • Limits automatic cleanup to unchanged Safe-to-remove caches and logs, revalidates the exact proposal through the normal planner and executor, and enforces a configurable per-run byte ceiling.
  • Adds an optional, separately confirmed seven-day Trash grace period; final removal verifies the exact recorded path, filesystem identity, size, and safety scope and never empties unrelated Trash items.
  • Classifies recognized old DMG, PKG, and ISO installer packages as Safe to remove without making them eligible for unattended Maintain Mode cleanup; very large personal files and Trash remain explicit review items.
  • Includes a DeepSeek-assisted advisor that explains impact, recommends the domain-correct cleanup method, and can preselect locally approved items for the normal review plan.
  • Protects Docker backing storage from generic cache deletion and recommends Docker's own inventory and prune workflow.
  • Adds a proportional radial storage map with folder drill-down, hover details, direct Finder inspection, and an accessible list alternative.
  • Introduces an atmospheric, material-led interface with canvas-integrated navigation, a map-first Explore workspace, and deliberately placed review controls.
  • Supports native light and dark appearances, reduced motion and transparency, keyboard navigation, native Find, and VoiceOver labels.

Safety notes

  • Permanent removal is off by default and is available only for exact Maintain Mode recovery items after a separately authorized seven-day grace period. Disk Whisk never empties Trash as a whole.
  • “Moved to Trash” is not the same as reclaimed disk space. Without optional final removal, space is recovered only after the user empties Trash in Finder.
  • Personal-folder and Trash review are off by default to keep permission requests contextual.
  • This beta has no account, telemetry, or shell-command execution path. Network access is limited to the optional DeepSeek advisor; Maintain Mode notifications are local.
